As acknowledgement of its dedication to providing exceptional patient care and treatment for women with breast disease, Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, a Care New England hospital, has earned a 2015 Women's Choice Award® for its Breast Health Center making it one of America's best breast centers. This evidence-based designation identifies the country's best health care institutions based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction, clinical excellence and what women say they want from a hospital.

"This is the second Women's Choice designation Women & Infants has earned in 2015 – the first being as an America's Best Hospital for Obstetrics. Both announcements highlight the outstanding care we provide women and their families every single day," said Mark R. Marcantano, president and chief operating officer at Women & Infants Hospital. "Our Breast Health Center is a compassionate, supportive environment in which women receive care from some of the nation's top experts, with the latest in treatment and diagnostic equipment. We are very proud that this excellence is being recognized."

The designation was awarded to 315 breast health programs in the nation this year.

"Every two minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer, and she needs to know which breast centers she can trust to navigate this uncertain path," said Delia Passi, CEO and founder of the Women's Choice Award and former publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother magazines. "Breast care is extremely vital to women's health and we want them to know that Women & Infants' Breast Health Center has met the highest standards in caring for the needs of their female patients."

Women & Infants' Breast Health center earned the designation by having met the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards from the American College of Surgeons. The NAPBC is a consortium of national professional organizations focused on breast health and dedicated to the improvement of quality care and outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast through evidence-based standards and patient and professional education. As one of America's Best Breast Centers, Women & Infants also carries the seal of the American College of Radiologists as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, and scored above average on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services patient satisfaction measures.
