Knowledgeable Nutrition Specialists

The WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program is a nationwide education program offering nutrition and breastfeeding counseling, as well as healthy food supplementation for women, infants and children. It is funded through the United States Department of Agriculture and administered through the Rhode Island State Department of Health and local agencies throughout Rhode Island.

No Show Policy
We have a policy for missed appointments at all Women & Infants' physician practices. If you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment, please give us at least 24 hours notice.

WIC Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • Pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum (less than six months) women, infants less than 12 months old and children less than five years old
  • Resident of Rhode Island
  • Having a nutritional need
  • Meeting income guidelines

WIC Benefits:

  • Nutrition education and advice on making healthy food choices for women and their families.
  • Breastfeeding encouragement and support.
  • Coordination and referrals to health care providers and other community services.

Cards to buy specific supplemental and nutritious foods such as:

  • Low-fat milk
  • Soy and lactaid milk
  • Eggs
  • Vitamin C-rich juice
  • Cheese
  • Yogurt
  • Whole-grain bread and corn tortillas, brown rice and whole wheat pasta
  • Iron-fortified cold/hot cereals
  • Beans or peanut butter
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Infant formula
  • Special medical formulas
  • Jarred infant foods and cereals
  • Extra foods such as canned fish and cheese can be added for mothers who are exclusively breastfeeding
