Ultrasound is an imaging procedure that examines the internal organs and blood vessels. The ultrasound machine sends out high-frequency sound waves that reflect off body structures to produce an image. There is no exposure to radiation. The diagnostic ultrasound division of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging offers the full scope of services and is accredited by the American College of Radiology in breast imaging, obstetrics and general ultrasound.
