Women & Infants Hospital is the major teaching hospital in women's health care for The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The hospital is committed to training medical students, residents, and fellows and offers several fellowships for advanced specialty training. The Breast Health Center offers a one-year fellowship in breast disease accredited by the Society of Surgical Oncologists (SSO). This fellowship accepts two fellows per year and is offered to surgically-trained physicians who have completed a residency in their specialty (i.e., general surgery, ObGyn, plastics).

Preferred candidates have demonstrated a strong interest in breast disease. The Breast Disease Fellowship begins with simultaneous rotations in our Breast Health Center's surgical offices and a two-week workshop in clinical research.
Throughout the course of the year, the formal clinical rotations include:
In September, the fellows begin seeing patients in the Breast Health Center’s surgical offices with attendings, and ultimately, managing their own surgical sessions. The breast fellows are responsible for supervising the 2nd year ObGyn residents who join the Breast Health Center for scheduled rotations throughout the year. Additionally, the fellows oversee other rotating residents and medical students.

Research is an integral part of the Breast Disease Fellowship and the program affords fellows a foundation for pursuing the investigative and scholarly aspects of breast disease. The Breast Health Center actively participates predominantly in clinical research with an opportunity to participate in basic science research to advance the knowledge and treatment of breast cancer. All interested candidates are required to submit their applications electronically to the Society of Surgical Oncologists (SSO).
To foreign applicants from a general surgery residency who require visa sponsorship: Regretfully, per ECFMG, since we are an ObGyn residency hospital that does not have a general surgery residency program, we are not able to sponsor visas for those applying from a general surgery residency.
Per SSO, applications are only accepted from December 19, 2022 to January 20, 2023.
