Pregnancy is a time of change and new experiences. You experience feelings, both physical and emotional, that you may have never experienced before. It is a big change to all areas of your life. It is also a learning experience for you, your partner, and your family. To help you prepare, we offer educational classes in English and Spanish to include childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, and newborn care. We also offer a virtual hospital tour of Women & Infants Hospital in English and Spanish.
Our Babysitting Academy is designed to teach girls and boys to become responsible babysitters. This course includes babysitting responsibilities, child growth and development, child care, accident prevention and safety, First Aid training, activities for children, and positive discipline techniques. Class cost is $75.00 per child. This class is not covered by insurance.
This class teaches expectant parents everything they need to know to breastfeed their baby. Topics include preparing for nursing, breastfeeding techniques, and pumping and storing milk. This two-week series teaches expectant parents how to care for mom and baby. Topics include what to expect from your hospital experience, Mom’s postpartum adjustments and care, newborn appearance, newborn care including diapering, swaddling, comforting, bathing, and burping. This three-week series teaches expectant parents about the childbirth experience. Topics include physical and emotional preparation for birth, the signs and stages of labor, the birth process, medical interventions, the Alternative Birthing Center (ABC), relaxation and breathing techniques, what to expect during your hospital stay, and birth videos. This FREE CLASS will help you understand the basics of money management and sound financial health. You will learn how to manage your income and expenses, establish goals and build savings, shop for loans and credit understand how to get out of debt, identify what important papers and documents you should have.
This special class is designed to enhance the bond between expectant grandparents and the new family. The entire family is invited to find out what’s new and not so new in childbirth, infant care, and the hospital experience. Class cost is $30.00 per family. If you know you are having a Cesarean birth, this class will help to prepare you for your birth experience. Topics include medication and anesthesia, relaxation techniques, the surgical procedure, recovery, what to expect during your hospital stay, and a birth video. Class cost is $35.00 per couple. If your doctor or midwife has spoken to you about having an Induction of Labor, this free class will help to prepare you for your induction experience. Topics include: What is induction of labor? MEDICAL reasons for induction, ELECTIVE induction, Cervical ripening: What to expect, What to expect in Labor and Delivery, A few more things to know, and helpful tips.
Our online childbirth preparation class takes 4-6 hours to complete and prepares expectant parents for their birthing experience. Have you given birth before? This online class is a great refresher course too! Topics include what’s happening to your changing body, having multiples, physical and emotional preparation for birth, the signs and stages of labor and birth, comfort, relaxation, and breathing techniques, medical interventions, vaginal and Cesarean birth, advice for partners, and what to expect during your hospital stay. This program includes instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. You’ll have access to the eClass for 9 months after you first log in. Class cost is $100.00 per couple.
