Continuing Medical Education (CMEs)

The CME Program at Women & Infants Hospital offers activities that utilize a variety of teaching modalities to maintain, develop, and increase the knowledge, skills, and professional development of the staff of Women & Infants Hospital, Care New England Healthcare system, and its academic affiliates. Women & Infants Hospital CME program is accredited by the Rhode Island Medical Society and currently holds a Certificate of Accreditation with Commendation.

The CME program at WIH provides continuing medical education concentrating in the areas of women's health, neonatal health and their related subspecialties. It also provides topics and credits to satisfy Rhode Island and nearby state licensure and risk requirements. The WIH CME program builds its educational activities guided by ACGME's core competencies of a) Professionalism b) Practice based learning c) Patient care and skills d) Systems based practice e) Medical knowledge and f) Interpersonal and communication skills.

All WIH CME activities utilize ACCME guidelines of defining a target audience, course/ activity objectives, reviewing and validating content, obtaining activity evaluations, assessing and disclosing conflict of interest, ensuring independence from commercial influence, improving patient outcomes, and promoting healthcare quality improvement initiatives.

Sample content of the WIH CME program includes but is not limited to:

  • Medicine Fellows' Conference
  • OB/GYN grand rounds (Thursday morning 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM)
    • OBGYN Morbidity and Mortality conferences (peer protected)
    • OBGYN Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards to include
      • Breast tumor board
      • Cancer prevention case conference
      • GYN tumor board
    • OBGYN Specialty Care in Pregnancy

  • Perinatal Management Conference
  • Perinatal Pathology Conference
  • Risk Management
  • Schwartz Center Rounds
  • Women's Behavior Health Conference
