is director of the Newborn Nursery. Dr. Marcia VanVleet is concentrating her efforts on improving the care that newborns receive at Women & Infants Hospital, including applying epidemiological and statistical analysis to the growing body of evidence-based literature about the newborn and bringing best practices to current policies.
As a medical educator, Dr. Van Vleet enjoys developing curriculum to support the dissemination of this knowledge to the pediatric residents and medical students in the newborn nurseries.
Dr. Van Vleet’s research interests are medical education, breastfeeding, neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), survey methodology, and public health.
In 2010, she completed a Masters of Public Health at Brown University with her thesis investigating the hybrid chart documentation of Group B Strep and Hep B status in maternal and newborn charts, which has been used to develop hospital policies.
