Robert D. Legare, MD, is co-director of the Breast Health Center and director of the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program in The Program in Women’s Oncology at Women & Infants Hospital, and an associate professor of medicine and obstetrics and gynecology, clinical, at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

A graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Dr. Legare completed his residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and his research/clinical fellowship was completed at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Board certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine, Dr. Legare is actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and is an instructor for small group sessions, Pathophysiology/Hematology (Bio380), at the Warren Alpert Medical School.

Dr. Legare has received the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award from Women & Infants Hospital/Brown University from 2000 to 2016. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Brown University Oncology Group, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. Dr. Legare is the author of many papers, abstracts and chapters. He is actively involved in clinical research focusing on breast and ovarian cancer as well as leading a trial at Women & Infants studying chemotherapy for breast cancer in BRCA mutation carriers. Dr. Legare collaborates with other investigators nationally studying hereditary cancer syndromes.
