Why Every Family in Rhode Island Should Prioritize Supporting Women & Infants Hospital’s Philanthropy Campaign to Deliver Our Future

(Providence, RI)  --  On Wednesday, March 1st, a group of amazing women came together to discuss how over 80% of local babies are born at Women & Infants Hospital. That means that over 8 in 10 families are directly touched by the world-class care that is shared right here in Providence. The non-profit health system is seeking to raise millions to transform this vital aspect of healthcare into a state-of-the-art location that it once was. With the space not being renovated in 30 years, the aesthetics and space to perform innovative medicine do not match the superior level of quality that a family receives here. The all-women steering committee for this capital campaign for the new Labor and Delivery Center at Women’s & Infants Hospital in Rhode Island (W&I), hosted a breakfast at the home of Campaign Steering Committee member Alison Chaltas to educate attendees about The Campaign to Deliver Our Future.

Shannon Sullivan, president and chief operating officer of Women & Infants Hospital, was in attendance for an interactive discussion to create awareness about the plans to create a new labor and delivery unit at W&I.

Sullivan touts, “The new labor and delivery rooms will reflect the hospital’s promise to meet the needs of all of its patients, with health equity and access a cornerstone. Patients will labor and deliver in spacious, natural light-filled rooms, which will accommodate specialized healthcare teams, as well as extended family where desired.”

The steering committee has brought together a group of leaders from across the greater Rhode Island community, including Campaign Chair, Judith B. Remondi, Alison Chaltas, Sharon D. Conard-Wells, Constance A. Howes, Delia Rodriguez-Masjoan, Sarah Morgenthau, and Renu Englehart.

Remondi, an avid supporter of W&I since giving birth to her son at W&I twenty years ago, reports, “the campaign has raised $22 million to date, illustrating the tremendous support we have from the community.” She added, “Brown University, which trains their OB/GYN students at the hospital, made a $5 million gift toward our campaign goal and we look forward to continuing to share our vision with all families touched by this amazing facility that does not turn anyone away who is in need of the highest quality care.”
