Women's Care

Welcome to Women's Care

At Women’s Care, our providers build relationships based on trust, confidence, and caring for people of all ages and stages of life.

Thank you for considering Women’s Care for your obstetric and gynecologic health needs. Women’s Care is a unique practice that consists of a collaborative team of obstetric and gynecologic physicians along with certified nurse midwives. Our mission is to provide comprehensive and first-rate obstetric, gynecologic, midwifery, and wellness services.

In our practice, we offer a broad range of services. We provide preventative and routine care for individuals of all ages, from adolescence to post-menopause. This ranges from health education, contraception, preconception counseling, cancer screening, and more.
We also offer evaluation and treatment of an individual’s health issues, including, but not limited to, abnormal uterine bleeding and pelvic pain. Our obstetrician gynecologists have a robust surgical practice with a focus on minimally invasive gynecologic surgery to assist in the treatment of these issues when indicated and desired.

Women’s Care also provides a unique approach to obstetric care with collaboration between our obstetric gynecologists and our certified nurse midwives. With this model, we are able to meet each patient’s individual goals in pregnancy care.

What is Midwifery Care?

Personalized Midwifery Care

At Women’s Care, we have 12 midwives. Certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are board-certified, advanced-practice registered nurses who specialize in the normal processes of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Our nurse-midwives deliver babies and provide person-centered care to low-risk patients during pregnancy, labor, postpartum, and beyond. Midwifery care has been shown to increase your chance of having a vaginal birth and decrease the need for medical intervention.

Our nurse-midwives work both independently and in collaboration with our physicians. In addition to pregnancy care, our midwives provide family planning services (including inserting IUDs and Nexplanons), STI testing, menopause care, preconception and pregnancy planning, annual well-person care, and routine gynecologic care for people across their lifespan, from adolescence through menopause and beyond.

The midwives at Women’s Care believe that all people deserve personalized, respectful care in a system that takes into account cultural and personal differences. We recognize the inherent right of each person to understand their options and be active participants in their care. We are committed to building partnerships with our patients and their families.

We care for patients at our offices in East Greenwich, East Providence, Pawtucket, and Providence.

We attend births at Women and Infants Hospital in both the Alternative Birthing Center (ABC) and the Labor and Delivery units. Many people who desire unmedicated or “natural” childbirth seek out midwifery care. Additionally, we offer many choices to help with pain including labor support, IV pain medication, nitrous oxide, and epidurals. We also support hydrotherapy during labor in our Alternative Birth Center’s jacuzzi tub or a shower in one of the traditional labor rooms.

Our Services

Annual Well-Care Exams
If you are sexually active or over the age of 18, it’s important to have a partnership with a trusted provider—even if you’re healthy. Our providers will help you stay healthy with well-care visits, vaccinations, and screenings.

During your well-care visit, you might get a Pap test, blood work to check for sexually transmitted infections, a breast exam, or advice on preventing pregnancy. Everyone’s needs are different, so your provider will tailor your visit to meet your individual needs.
Gynecological Care
Our providers can help with gynecologic problems that might arise.

This can include:
•    Management of uterine fibroids
•    Sexually transmitted infections
•    Polycystic ovarian syndrome
•    Painful or irregular periods
•    Vaginal infections

Prenatal Care
Our midwives and obstetricians provide prenatal care for both low and high-risk pregnancies. We care for many new parents, but we ensure your pregnancy and birth is a special and unique experience.

Our nurse-midwives deliver babies and provide person-centered care to low-risk patients. Midwives also collaborate with our physicians to care for patients with medical complications during pregnancy.
Family Planning/Birth Control Counseling

Birth control can help give you control over your health in many ways: preventing pregnancy, helping you have lighter or less painful periods, or part of managing conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or endometriosis.

There are many options for birth control, and our providers can help you choose the best method for you.

Different types of birth control include:
•    IUD (intrauterine device), both hormonal and non-hormonal options
•    Arm implant
•    Injection
•    Birth control pills
•    Birth control vaginal ring
•    Birth control patch
•    Diaphragm
•    Condoms
•    Fertility awareness methods
•    Tubal ligation

Menopause Care
Menopause is when you stop having periods, permanently. After 12 months without a period, you are in menopause. While menopause is a natural part of aging, some people experience bothersome symptoms that we can help with.
Preconception Counseling

If you’re thinking about getting pregnant within the next year, it may be helpful to schedule a visit with your midwife or obstetrician to discuss things like fertility awareness, nutrition, and more. Your provider can help answer any questions you have about this big next step in your life.

Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)
With about 1 in 3 babies in the United States born via Cesarean, there are a lot of people who are interested in a vaginal birth after Cesarean, or VBAC, with their next pregnancy. Our midwives and obstetricians at Women & Infants Hospital are supportive of your decision for either a repeat Cesarean or a VBAC.
