Behavioral Health Program
Our Behavioral Health staff includes board certified psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and clinical nurse specialists. We have the expertise needed to successfully diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of psychiatric conditions before, during and after a woman's pregnancy.
Interim Director - Margaret Howard, PhD

Consultation Liaison Service
In collaboration with the Women and Infants' Social Services Department, our staff is available for psychiatric consultation to women who are inpatient or in the emergency department at Women & Infants Hospital.

Outpatient Clinic
We specialize in psychotherapy and medication treatment for women with mood and anxiety disorders related to pregnancy, postpartum and pregnancy loss.

Day Hospital
The Women & Infants' Day Hospital is the only psychiatric program of its kind in the country. We treat pregnant and newly postpartum women who are suffering from depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. Our program is unique because it allows mothers and babies to remain together during treatment.

Yoga study available
Researchers at Butler Hospital and Brown University are conducting a research project examining two different programs to see if they help with stress and sad mood during pregnancy. Women eligible to participate are randomly assigned to either a prenatal yoga program with weekly classes, or a Mom & Baby Wellness Workshop that also meets once a week to discuss such topics as keeping yourself healthy as your family grows, child development in the first year, and caring for a newborn. More information is available on the Butler website.
