Ensuring Our Nurses’ Success
Our patients and their families and friends often ask us about ways to honor and remember a loved one, or ways that they can thank our staff for the care they have received. Thanks to two very generous families, there are some easy ways to accomplish those things. If you would like to add your gift to either of these funds, please use the simple form included. We thank you very much for your thoughtful generosity and the help you will give us in bringing the best possible care to those we serve.
Marjorie (Sherley) Garth Wolcott Nursing Endowment Fund
Marjorie (Sherley) Garth Wolcott was a remarkable woman. Even as she was preparing for imminent death, she was planning a way to thank, in perpetuity, the nurses at Women & Infants Hospital who were giving her the wonderful care she and her family experienced in her long battle with cancer.
From her hospital bed, she formulized a fund that would provide the means for oncology nurses to continue their education through course work and conferences. This fund would grow and last, long after her physical presence made it possible to say “thank you.”
The Parsons Fund for Professional Development and Enrichment of Nurses
In May 2001, in the midst of the annual National Nurses Week celebration, Women & Infants’ trustee, Kathryn M. Parsons, and her family announced the creation of a significant endowment fund to assist nurses in furthering their education and knowledge. The Parsons Fund for Professional Development and Enrichment of Nurses at Women & Infants Hospital provides income annually to promote nursing education and enables the hospital to bring in nationally-recognized speakers. The fund provides further financial assistance to nurses who wish to attend conferences and lectures.
In establishing this fund, Ms. Parsons described the occasions on which she was a patient at Women & Infants – for the wonderful experience of delivering all three of her children, and for the not-so-wonderful experience of being on the hospital’s fourth floor for oncology patients. Because of the nurses in the hospital, she found it a pleasure to be a patient at Women & Infants – which is something that not many people can say.
