Current Volunteer Opportunities

Patient & Visitor Ambassadors

Our volunteer ambassadors serve to support a positive hospital experience for patients, their families, and visitors. Positions are based in the Main Lobby, the Infusion Center, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Care Center and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Morning, mid-day, and late afternoon times are available, depending upon location, for volunteers with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A successful volunteer will be assigned to one of these areas and will work as an independent member of an interdisciplinary team. In the Main Lobby, this is an active position, with our ambassadors on their feet for three to four hours at a time. In the NICU and at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Care Center, volunteers are seated at a reception desk from which they provide assistance to patients and families. An ability to understand and speak Spanish is desirable.

If selected for a visitor ambassador position in the Main Lobby, additional training is required. You would be expected to attend one of the upcoming sessions. Registration is required.

  • Thursday, October 20h at 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 16th at 2 p.m.
Unit Volunteers

Our patient care unit-based volunteers serve the nonclinical needs of our patients and families on their respective nursing units. They enhance the patient experience by assisting clinical staff, responding to nonmedical requests and providing transport services within the hospital and at discharge.

Shifts are:

  • Ambulatory Surgery Unit from 1-4 p.m. or 2-5 p.m.
  • Medical Surgical Unit between 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Individuals must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to volunteer on our patient units. A successful volunteer must be able to work as an independent member of an interdisciplinary team. It is an active position, so our unit volunteers are on their feet for much of their three or four hour shifts.

If selected for a unit volunteer position, additional training is required. You would be expected to attend one of the upcoming sessions . No alternate dates are available and registration is required.

  • Monday, October 17th at 3 p.m.
  • Monday, November 14th at 3 p.m.
Office Assistants

Our volunteer office assistants serve to support clerical and administrative functions within targeted departments. A successful volunteer must be attentive to detail, have excellent organizational skills, and be able to follow the direction of coworkers. Specific activities vary by department.

Availability for a weekday morning (9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) or afternoon (1-4:30 p.m.) is required.

Application Process

If you are interested in and available for serving in one of our posted priority volunteer positions and the related training, as outlined, above, please submit your volunteer application.

After reviewing your application, a member of Volunteer Services will determine if your goals, skills, interests and availability seem suited to our volunteer openings. If that is the case, we will invite you to an upcoming Group Interview Session. Otherwise, we will be holding your application for up to three months.

Once registered for the group interview, you will receive a packet of information that contains details of the meeting location, etc. With that material is additional paperwork to complete in advance and bring to the session.

Upcoming Group Interview Sessions

  • Thursday, October 13th at 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, November 2nd at 1 p.m.

Sessions may last up to 1 ¼ hours, based upon size of group.
