Once you have been assigned a role in any of our volunteer service areas, you will go through a comprehensive onboarding process to prepare you for our work together.

Because of the time and resources invested in your onboarding, you will be expected to provide the minimum commitment, once started, of at least:

  • One consistent three or four hour shift each week.
  • Four months of service, minimum.
Volunteer Services staff will guide you in the intake process, supported by other staff and hospital resources.

The onboarding includes:

  • Health screening (including TB testing and immunization screening; annual flu shot is required of all volunteers unless medically contraindicated per physician).
  • Criminal background check.
  • Orientation to hospital wide policies and practices.
  • Review of hospital standards and rules.
  • Acquisition of hospital ID badge.
  • Purchase of a uniform will be required for some positions.
  • Additional formal training required for some positions (i.e. Ambassador, Unit Volunteer).
