The Pelvic Pain Program offers appointments with physicians who specialize in pelvic pain, or pain located between your belly button and your hips. If this pain lasts for more than six months, it is called "chronic" pelvic pain. Our staff works with your primary care physician to determine what is causing the pain. Some possible causes are nerves or problems in the female organs, intestines, bladder or retroperitoneal space (between your diaphragm and pelvis). We treat a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Endometriosis.
  • Side effects from pelvic inflammatory disease.
  • Fibroids.
  • Pain when ovulating.
  • Pain during your menstrual cycle.
  • Adenomyosis.
  • Cysts.
  • Pelvic congestion syndrome.

The staff in the Pelvic Pain Program helps to coordinate care with other specialists as indicated, including gastroenterology and urology, for the management of such issues as:

  • Diverticulitis.
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
  • Constipation.
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
  • Ulcerative colitis.
  • Interstitial cystitis.
  • Chronic urinary tract infections (UTI).
  • We also work collaboratively with Care New England’s Women’s Behavioral Health Services to help women coping with chronic pain to live a productive life.
