Many women suffer from pelvic organ prolapse and would like to improve their symptoms through surgery.Though many women undergo hysterectomy as part of the surgical repair of prolapse, removal of the uterus is not always required, and some women might prefer not to have a hysterectomy if given the option. Two surgical procedures that are currently available and leave the uterus in place include vaginal Uphold hysteropexy and laparoscopic sacral hysteropexy. The patient and her physician will choose which procedure is best for the patient before enrolling in the study.

The study, through the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, will compare the outcomes after surgery, such as the effects that people experience and the changes in functioning and quality of life.Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires during their routine visits required after surgery, and will receive a small compensation for their time and effort. No additional office visits are required for participation in this study.
