Description

This study, sponsored by the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse, will examine the behavior of newborns whose mothers were given medication to prevent their baby from getting the AIDS virus and who may or may not have used alcohol during pregnancy. We will also study the newborn behavior of babies who were not exposed to this medication and may or may not have been exposed to alcohol during pregnancy. Your experiences will be measured by completing questionnaires before your baby's discharge home from the nursery. Infant behavior will be measured by observing your baby's actions and reflexes. The research staff will also collect information about your infant's health and medical status from the medical record at the same time.
