Description

Currently all women admitted for labor prior to 34 weeks will be given Antenatal corticosteroids (Betamethasone) for fetal lung maturity. There are so many babies born in the late preterm period (34-36 weeks 6 days) who require respiratory support at birth. Would neonates at this gestational age benefit from their pregnant mothers receiving antenatal corticosteroids as well? Women and Infants Hospital is taking part in this national study under the Maternal Fetal Medicine Units network, sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child and Human Development and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. 2800 women will be randomized to receive either the antenatal corticosteroids or placebo during their pregnancy.
