Hospital Wide Council
Women & Infants’ The mission of the W&I Patient and Family Advisory Council is to form and sustain a partnership between patients and family members and hospital administration and staff for the purposes of supporting the hospital’s mission and advocating that the principles of patient and family centered care are evident in all W&I policies, programs, and patient care practices. The W&I Advisory Council supports the concept that “family” is defined by the patient.
This group draws upon the collective experiences, wisdom and opinions of its members to advise and advocate for patients and families throughout the hospital.
Established in 2007, the Council has had a great impact on life at Women & Infants with:
- The creation of a child-friendly space around a colorful aquarium in the lobby.
- The creation of a Family Resource Center for patients and families.
- The introduction of CarePages to help families stay connected.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Family Council
The mission of the Family Advisory Council is to form a partnership between NICU families and NICU staff in order to advocate for a NICU environment that is developmentally supportive and family-centered. The key role of the Council is to provide the perspective and voice of NICU families in the creation of policies and procedures that promote an optimal healing environment for babies, and support families and staff.
The NICU Council is made up of parents and family members with prior experience in our NICU. Council members partner with current NICU leadership and staff to enhance the NICU environment for newborns and their families.
Established in 2006, the NICU Council has played a large role in the NICU.
- Advised on the planning and design of our new NICU.
- Helped revise the NICU Visitation Policy.
- Advocated for patients and families.
Antenatal Care Unit Advisory Council
The mission of the Antenatal Care Unit Patient Family Advisory Council is to enhance the inpatient experience for our high-risk patients spiritually, emotionally and physically. The council forms a partnership comprised of a multidisciplinary team of staff members and patients. The goal is to incorporate the principles of family centered care by developing amenity programs, improving support services and increasing enrichment programs.
The mission of the WIH OB Patient and Family Advisory Council is to foster a relationship between patients who receive care from our obstetrical services, their families and the healthcare team. In doing so, we hope to nurture a partnership that leads to respectful safe, compassionate individualized care throughout all stages of pregnancy. The WIH Advisory Council support the concept that "family" is defined by the patient. Newly form in 2013, the values of the OB Council include:
- Compassionate care.
- Respect for individualized choices.
- Evidence based practice.
- Transparent information sharing.
- Coordinated communication in the care of the patient.
