Treating Postpartum Depression

The Day Hospital at Women & Infants Hospital is part of the Center for Women’s Behavioral Health in the hospital’s Center for Women’s Medicine. It is the first program of its kind in the nation to provide clinical and therapeutic services specifically for pregnant and postpartum women in a professional, supportive and familiar setting.

The mission of the Day Hospital is to serve the unique needs of women suffering from depression or other psychiatric disorders during pregnancy or following childbirth, through a commitment to providing integrated care to mothers and their newborn children.

A key component of the program is recognizing the importance of keeping the mother and baby together. Therefore, each participant is encouraged to bring her baby with her each day of her treatment.

Promoting a Healthy Mom and Baby Relationship

  • The inclusion of infants in the program promotes healthy mom-baby relationships
and minimizes disruption for moms who are breastfeeding.
  • We are committed to keeping mom and baby together when a new mother needs
psychiatric care after delivery, when bonding is critical.
