The Day Hospital is staffed by a team of licensed, qualified maternal-child behavioral health professionals who are on the staff of Women & Infants Hospital, and many are faculty at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Since the opening of our Day Hospital in February 2000, we have cared for more than 3,000 pregnant and postpartum patients. Major depression represents the primary diagnosis for which our patients seek treatment.
Other disorders – anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and other mood disorders – are also treated.
Services include but are not limited to:
- Group psychotherapy
- Individual psychotherapy
- Mother-baby assessment
- Family assessment, psychoeducation and counseling
- Infant massage
- Medication assessment
- Nutrition consultation
- Lactation consultation
- Referrals for colic or other infant concerns
- Referrals for medical or other concerns
- Referrals to more intensive levels of care, if needed
- Individually tailored outpatient plans to be followed after discharge
The Day Hospital serves a culturally diverse patient base. A number of our staff are fluent in Spanish, and we also make use of interpreters when needed to ensure that we are communicating with our patients in the language that is most comfortable for them.
