“One of the highlights of our new Center will be a state-of-the-art embryology laboratory, designed to complement the patient-oriented integrative care services that we offer, such as massage therapy and acupuncture,” said Sandra A. Carson, MD, director of the Center for Reproduction and Infertility, and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
The new Center will also feature a patient education center where patients can review educational materials and videos, have access to websites, and take part in virtual and technical training about their treatment.
“For a woman coping with infertility, hormone problems, menstrual pain and irregularity, partnering with the right provider – in a setting that makes her feel cared for and comfortable – is vital,” continued Dr. Carson. “Our physicians have nearly 200 years of combined experience caring for women hoping to become pregnant. Our goal is to begin treatment quickly and achieve success with plans designed personally for each patient, as an individual.”
Women & Infants’ Center for Reproduction and Infertility is the largest fertility program in Providence and a critical resource for thousands of couples from around the region hoping to have a baby. The Center’s medical professionals are internationally recognized for their unparalleled experience in all areas of reproductive medicine. The entire IVF cycle is performed in Providence, and the frozen embryos are also stored here.
The Center offers a full range of testing and treatment services for infertility. A comprehensive approach for both male and female infertility patients is provided through a team of reproductive endocrinologists, nurses, social workers, and other providers, working along with specialists in male infertility, as needed. Specialized genetic services and consultation are also available.
To help women who may still wish to have children explore options before, during or after cancer treatment, the Center offers a Fertility Preservation Program for adult and pediatric patients, working in collaboration with Women & Infants’ Program in Women’s Oncology and Breast Health Center and Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s Division of Oncology.
The Center staff also work with community-based gynecologists to provide a wide variety of reproductive endocrinology services, including excess hair growth, hormone therapy after menopause, pelvic pain, polycystic ovarian disease, repeated miscarriages, severe endometriosis, early menopause, and premature ovarian failure. Services for the treatment of sexual problems is provided in coordination with Women & Infants’ Center for Sexuality, Intimacy and Fertility.
In addition to an affiliation with the Alpert Medical School, Women & Infants’ Center for Reproduction and Infertility is also affiliated with Tufts Medical Center. Reproductive endocrinology specialists see patients at Women & Infants’ sites in Providence, East Greenwich, South Kingstown, and Woonsocket, RI; Fall River, Foxboro, Swansea, and Wareham, MA; and at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
