She came to Women & Infants Hospital and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in 2004 as a fellow in the Clinical Trials and Epidemiology (T32) program, which she completed along with a master’s degree in public health in 2006 at Brown University.  After completing this fellowship, Dr. Matteson was selected as a Women’s Reproductive Health Research Scholar (WRHR - K12) and subsequently completed a K23 career development award from NICHD.  At Women & Infants, Dr. Matteson is the coordinating director for the Resident Research Curriculum and the Women’s Health Fellows Workshop in Clinical Research Design. She also serves as the research director for the Women & Infants WRHR program and directs a Brown-wide seminar series for career development scholars.  Her presentations and peer-reviewed publications primarily focus on clinical research methods, abnormal uterine bleeding, and benign gynecologic conditions.

Dr. Matteson practices both obstetrics and gynecology and supervises residents and med-ical students in the Women’s Primary Care Center, on the labor floor, on the inpatient gynecology service, and in the operating room.  Dr. Matteson has been consistently rec-ognized for her teaching skills and was awarded the CREOG (Counsel on Residency Ed-ucation in Obstetrics and Gynecology) Excellence in Teaching Award (National Recogni-tion Award) in 2009. Sought after as an advisor and mentor for residents and medical students, Dr. Matteson has been awarded outstanding teacher of the year awards since 2006 and was given the “Mentorship Award” from the Graduating Chief Residents in 2012.

For the past year and a half, Dr. Matteson has been funded through an R01 at the NIH/NICHD to conduct a randomized clinical trial to compare two common non-surgical treatments for heavy menstrual bleeding.  She is an invited member of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Menstrual Disorders Working Group and the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons Systematic Review Group. Additionally, she has served as a member of the Technical Expert Panel for the Agency for Health Care Quality Evi-dence Practice Center systematic review on treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) PROLOG task force for Patient Management in the Office.  She currently serves as a member of the ACOG Committee on Gynecologic Practice.
